Appleton, WI – APPLETON Employees at an office building thought a carbon monoxide detector was sounding due to a low battery Monday morning, but discovered potentially deadly levels and evacuated.
Appleton firefighters found levels at 200 parts per million around 9:30 a.m. Monday when they responded to the call at 2000 S. Memorial Drive.
Anything over 100 is considered uninhabitable and potentially lethal, said firefighter Dave Reigles. Luckily they had new meters that were working and were able to catch it early.
None of the building’s occupants were taken to the hospital due to the leak. The building houses the Worldwide Employment & Background Screening and U.S. Army recruiting office.
Reigles said the carbon monoxide leak was caused by a heating unit that would be repaired Monday.
