Chestnut Ridge, NY – Nine people were taken to Westchester Medical Center on Thursday morning after a carbon monoxide incident in Chestnut Ridge.
Ramapo police responded to 7 Beckett Court at 6:23 a.m. on a report of several people with symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.
“At this time, none of the illnesses sustained appear to be life threatening,” Ramapo police said in a statement.
Ramapo police said nine people in the home, ranging in age from 1 week old to 42-years-old, had symptoms including headaches, nausea and dizziness.
The people were removed from the house and treated by Rockland Paramedic Services, Hatzolah Ambulance Corps and the Faist Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
They were taken to the medical center in Valhalla.
Carbon monoxide can be deadly because the colorless, odorless gas replaces oxygen in the bloodstream.
The cause of the carbon monoxide leak is under investigation. Police said they were also assisted by the Monsey Fire Department, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations, the town building inspector, the town fire inspector and Orange and Rockland Utilities.
