Barboursville, WV – A restaurant in Barboursville reopened Monday evening, after a carbon monoxide leak sent seven people to the hospital earlier in the day.
Barboursville Fire Chief John Hockenberry said the incident was reported around 10:15 a.m. Monday at the Buffalo Wild Wings outside the Huntington Mall, after several employees started feeling sick.
Hockenberry said the leak has been linked to a disconnected hose in a carbon monoxide tank, which the restaurant uses to make the carbonation in its beverages. He added that the hose appeared to have disconnected for quite a while.
Earlier that morning, Hockenberry said a store manager was checking the carbon monoxide tanks and was overcome.
The manager, as well as six other employees were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, Hockenberry said.
Better to be safe than sorry, he said. I’ll go the extra mile just to make sure everybody goes home and everybody’s safe.
The restaurant reopened for business at 5 p.m. Monday, according to a restaurant employee.
Mall owner Cafaro Co. spokesman Joe Bell said an inspection of the restaurant’s equipment is planned
