Staten Island, NY – Seven people were evacuated from a multi-family home in Rosebank Tuesday morning in what’s being described by authorities as a carbon monoxide incident.

Four of the seven people that firefighters evacuated from a residence on St. Mary’s Avenue around 9 a.m. were taken to Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze, an FDNY spokesman said.

The ages and conditions of the victims were not available.

Upon finding elevated levels of carbon monoxide inside the building, firefighters vented, searched and evacuated the occupants, the spokesman said.

National Grid spokeswoman Karen Young said the carbon monoxide leak was caused by a faulty flue pipe and range inside the building.

The home’s owner must now contract a licensed plumber to make the necessary repairs before the utility company can return to re-test the CO levels and turn the gas meter back on, she said.
