Seymour, CT – An explosion shut down an area of Seymour Tuesday afternoon.

Seymour police say the area of Maple Street and Pearl Street was closed as crews responded.

The Seymour Fire Department responded to the scene.

The explosion was reported to authorities around 2 p.m.

Two of them were seriously injured and taken to the burn unit at Bridgeport Hospital. The third victim refused treatment.

Officials say five people are displaced.

Adam Spark says he was on the couch when he heard a really loud noise.

“I didn’t want to panic but I was, it was a pretty loud bang. So I was worried about people in the apartments around me. So immediately I open up the door to see if they were okay”

The Red Cross is assisting.

While the cause of the explosion is under investigation, officials say it is propane related.
