Greensboro, NC – Two people who lost power during the tornado on Sunday are in the hospital being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning.

The two adults were found after Greensboro fire received a call around 9:48 a.m. Tuesday to the 1800 block of Muncey Lane. They were taken to Cone Health for treatment. Their condition is critical the assistant fire chief confirms.

The house was being powered with a generator under the house. Assistant Greensboro Chief Dwayne Church said carbon monoxide got into the home.

The fire department is urging people who use generators to make sure it’s in an open-air environment. It should never be placed under a house or inside the house.

Exhaust from generators wil produce carbon monoxide which is odorless and colorless.

Prolonged exposure can cause illness and death.
