Waterloo, NY – Several fire companies were called Tuesday morning for the report of a possible explosion in Seneca County.

The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. at a mobile home located in the 800 block of Waterloo-Geneva Road in the town of Waterloo. Initial reports from the scene indicate there was no one inside the home when it exploded.

The trailer suffered extensive damage. The fire spread to an adjacent mobile home. That structure was also empty at the time of the fire. There’s no word yet on the cause of the fire. Fire officials say they’re lucky no one was home.

“When I arrived on scene within five minutes, the trailer 16 was fully involved in flames, through the roof, and coming out the side windows. Everything was fully engulfed,” said Chief Mike Reese.

Reese says the Red Cross is assisting the people who lived in both of the destroyed trailers.

No one was injured but two pets are unaccounted for.
