Philadelphia, PA – Seven people, including two children and a firefighter, were taken to the hospital after getting sick from carbon monoxide fumes in Southwest Philadelphia.

The incident happened about 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the 2700 block of Island Avenue.

According to investigators, an elderly couple left their car running inside a garage. The fumes spread through their home and into the house next door.

Two adults and two children inside the neighboring home became ill from the fumes. The elderly couple, as well as a responding firefighter, were also sickened.

All seven were taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for treatment. They are expected to be okay.

The Fire Marshal is investigating why the car was left running in the garage.
