Franklin County, UT – As many as 19 participants in a family reunion at the Riverdale Resort hot springs in Franklin County drove themselves to Logan Regional Hospital Saturday to get checked out for possible carbon monoxide poisoning.

According to a spokesperson for the resort, the affected individuals were staying in an enclosed, free-standing pavilion at the resort, where a portable outdoor heater was being used inside the building. There was no immediate indication how the heater got there.

The spokesperson said the family members reported feeling sick and left the resort around 10 a.m. after receiving refunds. She said a doctor from Logan Regional later phoned the resort to report that all the affected individuals were “fine.”

Police radio dispatches indicated two of the victims were treated in a hyperbaric chamber, but this could not be confirmed.

Although the incident occurred before noon on Saturday, emergency responders were not notified of the problem until 6 p.m. Franklin County police and fire crews responded to the resort at that time, setting up a perimeter and initiating an investigation.
