Elk Grove, CA – Authorities say a 16-year-old boy was critically injured when a camper in front of a Northern California home exploded following a propane leak.
Police and fire crews in the Sacramento County city of Elk Grove responded to a report of an explosion around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
Elk Grove police spokesman Christopher Trim say they arrived to find the trailer gutted and the boy severely burned.
Fire officials say the camper had a five-gallon propane tank, and there was a leak somewhere in the system. It wasn’t clear, however, what ignited the propane.
Cosumnes Fire Department Deputy Chief John Michelini says the boy was inside the camper, where he stayed from time to time. His relatives lived at an adjacent home, which also was damaged.
Michelini says there was no evidence of illegal activity.
